The Journey
Adrian Fanus’s journey into grooming began at just 15 years old on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, when a barbershop opened next door to his family home. Fascinated by the artistry and discipline of the craft, he quickly formed a friendship with barber Ryan Evans and soon began apprenticing—cleaning the shop, observing techniques, and immersing himself in the world of grooming.
Even at an early age, Adrian understood that exceptional grooming was about far more than a haircut. It was about listening, understanding a client’s needs, and creating an environment where people felt comfortable, respected, and genuinely cared for.
At 18, Adrian moved to New York City with a dream of one day opening his own salon. What he discovered was that ambition alone was not enough—it would require years of sacrifice, resilience, and relentless dedication. He worked his way up through the industry, building relationships, refining his craft, and cultivating a loyal clientele.
Nine years later, at the height of the recession and despite widespread skepticism, Adrian opened Adrian Fanus Grooming in Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill neighborhood. While many believed the timing was risky, Adrian believed in creating something the industry lacked: a luxury grooming destination rooted in professionalism, hospitality, and inclusivity.
Having worked in traditional barbershop environments, Adrian recognized that many men and women—particularly those who felt unwelcome due to outdated attitudes, machismo, or judgmental environments—were underserved by the grooming industry. He set out to create a business that was professional, inclusive, welcoming, and nonjudgmental.
Today, Adrian Fanus Grooming has become a trusted destination for discerning clients, including celebrities, athletes, executives, and creatives. Adrian’s clientele has included Forest Whitaker, Idris Elba, Chris Brown, John Legend, Grant Hill, and Nate Robinson, among others.
His work has also appeared in film, television, fashion editorials, and leading lifestyle publications.
Known for his meticulous eye and bespoke approach, Adrian studies each client’s facial structure, personal style, and lifestyle to create grooming experiences tailored specifically to them.
What began as a teenage fascination in Saint Lucia has evolved into one of New York’s most respected luxury grooming brands.
